SUMMARY:Overcoming Decision Deficit Disorder
DESCRIPTION:When Tom Davenport spoke to the BATC two years ago, it was one of the best-received events since our founding in the year 2003. Now, we are pleased to announce that he's back.In this new presentation, Tom Davenport, renowned analytics thought-leader, will describe the results from his most recent research study on the new landscape of decision-making. He argues that recent decision failures mean that organizations need to systematically examine their approaches to decision processes. He will discuss new decision alternatives such as the wisdom of crowds, findings from neuroscience, and behavioral economics—and how the new approaches fit with more traditional ones based on analytics and intuition. He will also detail the findings from interviews with more than fifty companies about how they have improved particular decision processes. Although Davenport is well-known as an advocate of analytical decisions, his research clearly indicates that good numbers are not sufficient to yield good decisions. This latest study will be featured in the November 2009 issue of Harvard Business Review, and is the next installment in Professor Davenport’s analytics journey — research that led to his best-selling book Competing on Analytics: The New Science of Winning and the follow-up book Analytics At Work: Smarter Decisions, Better Results, available in January 2010.
